Hair color maintenance is a must when getting highlights, coloring, straightening, bleaching, or perming. While at home, you can often do it yourself, but South Beach Hair Salon does it professionally and know what they’re doing. Some basic steps that need to be followed are cleansed, condition, color, and style. Follow these steps regularly, and you will be enjoying your colors for years.

Every day usually washes but make sure you thoroughly rinse with a gentle clarifying shampoo or conditioner. Avoid the temptation to over wash your hair with hot water. Hot water can cause hair damage, and your highlights will not stand out if you do this too often. When washing your hair, take your time so that you don’t rip or break your hair. If you have long hair, you shouldn’t be bending over while washing it, so it’s better to use a wide tooth brush to remove tangles from the hair and allow the water to flow through smoothly.
Next add some Conditioner to the water and massage into your hair. The conditioner will help to keep your hair shiny and prevent the color from slipping out quickly. Let your hair sit in the clarifying shampoo for five minutes to absorb all the dirt and oil you have been cleaning off of your hair. After the Clarifying shampoo have thoroughly dried out your hair, apply a moisturizer.
Next comes the multiple colors process. This is where it gets tricky. If you have a lot of color to process it’s recommended to go to a professional hair salon to get highlights and coloring done. Doing it yourself can cause damage to your hair. Having professionals perform the multiple colors can also save you money, which is another reason to outsource.
Depending on your highlights and coloring you may notice that your hair can start to fade. If you’re using highlights it’s because you have light hair and the darker it is the more your hair will fade. Depending on what you’re doing to your hair there are a few different ways you can fade your hair without it fading too much. If you have a lot of blonde hair with no other brassy features to it than you can bleach it with lemon juice. If you are doing the darker colors, you may need to use more than one literal Vitamin C supplement. This is to help fight off the free radicals that will cause your hair color to fade faster.
In addition to your hair being faded from bleach or color treatment it can also be caused from over washing. We all do it, whether we want to or not. Every day of our lives we are washing our hair and even brushing our teeth if that’s where we live. These constant washing practices can leave our hair dull and dry and can contribute to hair color loss over time. Use a mild shampoo rather than a daily conditioner and try to limit the number of washes you do to keep your hair looking good.
Next it’s important to look into getting touch-ups or in fact having touch-ups done for your coloring sessions. Many professional hair colorists will perform touch-ups to help even out the tone and keep your hair color looking natural. They’ll take a swatch of skin from one part of your body (your arm, leg, etc) and place it on the inside of your wrist. They’ll then use a device to add color to the area.
Once you have had some time to prepare your hair consider using a moisturizing shampoo and/or conditioner. Most hair colors contain a little silicone or sebum which can be washed off when you wash them. This means it’s very important to wash them carefully and thoroughly so that this oil doesn’t get washed off. Touch-ups are also available but many times you can just freshen up and wash your hair as normal if you have not had any color work done yet. If you do decide to have a touch-up or two, make sure you wash the product off completely afterward so that it doesn’t get washed into your scalp. Also when you try to wash your color away, make sure you don’t rub too hard as this can cause color bleeding.
